The bereavement services listed below are provided by locally based organizations. These groups are secular. Faith-based support groups can usually be found online or by contacting a specific religious organization.
Even though COVID-19 is no longer considered a pandemic, some groups are still being conducted remotely. Please contact the group you are interested in to get the most updated information. If an organization offers a support group with a special focus, it is annotated in bold type. |
Community Groups

Bereavement support groups for individuals, children, and families. Occasional social activities and newsletter. An intake interview is required. No individual counseling is available. Sessions are facilitated by professional staff members. Donations are accepted but no one is turned away if they cannot pay.
Additional special-focus groups include those who have lost a loved one to suicide, LGBTQ+ grievers, and widows/widowers over 60 years old.

Three adult grief support groups, held in different locations in West Seattle. Monday morning and Monday evening sessions are for all grievers; Thursday evening sessions are for those who have suffered a traumatic loss. More information can be found by clicking HERE.

Healing from Loss programs offer creative grief support for the heart and mind. Diverse individual and group formats offered in person and online for expected, sudden or traumatic death.

Weekly in-person and virtual bereavement support groups for adult widowed persons. Also provides social activities plus an annual retreat in the local area. Telephone support staffed by widowed volunteers. In-person meetings held in Auburn and Renton. Virtual meetings for Bellevue group. Both in-person and virtual meetings for Covington group. Community Grief Support in Natural (Local) Settings

Uses the ocean as a natural space to gather in community and honor loss. Offered year round (weather permitting) on the second Sunday of every month from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Contact for exact location. (Locations include Owens Beach and Copalis.) Peer-led, donations accepted.

Offers grief support during guided hikes of varying lengths as well as overnight trips. All hikes are guided by individuals who are trained in outdoor leadership, first aid, and grief support. Based in Olympia.

Ensures that people who are experiencing a life-altering loss have access to community and a variety of programming to support them. Guided walks and grief tending.

Local Hospice Bereavement Support
If your spouse died while receiving hospice care, the hospice agency will contact you periodically for 13 months to let you know about the programs and services they offer to provide emotional support as you grieve. Many hospices offer individual and group support sessions, informational workshops, ceremonies of remembrance, and other types of support. Sometimes these services are available to community members who did not use their hospice services. Please contact the hospice directly for more information about their programs and whether they are offered virtually or in-person.

Telehealth support for those who live in King and Pierce counties and have experienced a death of someone on hospice. For community clients, a one-time consultation call to assess needs and connect to community resources; plus access to a variety of groups (New to Grief, Growing through Grief, Journaling through Grief, Photography and Grief, Partner/Spousal Loss, and Men's Connection). Provides short-term, limited phone and virtual support is available for those who have lost a loved one on Providence Hospice of Snohomish and periodic virtual groups.

Provides support to kids and teens through virtual as well as in-person support at homes or in schools. They can provide consultation and a workbook for schools who would like to implement a grief support group.
Camp Erin - 206.749.7689

They have a general bereavement support group for adults (includes but is not specifically for widows) and a family bereavement support group for those with children. Both groups are currently meeting online.

A social club that offers community and connection for Gen X and younger widows and widowers (born after 1965) who are one year past the death of their person. Frequent social activities, conversation, and new friends who "get it." Click HERE.
