On this website's page entitled "To Do" Lists, there are links to resources regarding how to find a financial advisor. For far too many widows, however, their economic needs are more immediate.
FOR EMERGENCY FOOD NEEDS: King County has a comprehensive list of both the emergency and non-emergency food access resources that are available in King County. Click here. Outside King County, FoodPantries.Org can refer you to the closest food bank, food pantry, or other food source. Click here.
FOR EMERGENCY RENTAL ASSISTANCE: The 2-1-1 Washington Information Network will refer you to the most appropriate rental assistance program for your circumstances. Dial 211.
OTHER FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE:
At this time of widespread economic challenges and cuts to programs that benefit those in need, it is difficult to find financial resources for widows; below are a few links that might be helpful. More will be added as the website author's research continues.
Washington has a "Worker Retraining Program" for state residents. If you are a displaced homemaker due to divorce or the death of your spouse within the past 48 months, you may qualify for this program. Click HERE for additional information.
The Hope for Widows Foundation has an "Annual Restoring Hope and Peace Grant." Click HERE for additional information.
For widows who are interested in scholarships, the Jeannette Rankin Women's Scholarship Fund is open to low-income women over age 35 who are seeking either associate or bachelor degrees. (Jeannette Rankin was the first woman elected to Congress.)
Widows whose spouses served in the military and who now need assistance of their own with activities of daily living may be eligible for a program of the Veterans Administration called Aid and Attendance. This VA benefit provides monthly payments added to the amount of a monthly VA pension for qualified veterans and survivors. Click HERE for more information.
