Spotlight on Help Texts

We live in a world where more and more communication is taking place via text. While the SeattleWidowResources.com website primarily focuses on traditional local grief support resources, some widows may be interested in knowing about other options.

Help Texts was created by a Seattle widow (Emma Payne) who sought to apply her extensive background in technology to helping grieving individuals in need of emotional support.

Help Texts offers widows private grief support in the form of encouraging, validating, and uplifting text messages twice a week. These messages are personalized, based on the information a widow chooses to share about their loss. (Information is not shared with third parties.) The texts may reflect upon aspects of a widow’s grief journey that they may not have considered and thus can be educational as well as comforting.

The texts are composed by the Help Texts team of individuals who have studied and worked in the grief space for many years. Although you may not know the person who writes the texts you receive, the immediate emotional response can be, “This person understands what I’m feeling.” It can provide a measure of relief from the feelings of isolation and not being seen in your grief.

The Help Texts website (https://helptexts.com) includes examples of some of the messages a grieving person may receive.

A subscription currently costs $99. This includes the twice-weekly texts, plus encouraging messages that will be sent on important dates and holidays. For no additional cost, a widow can add two “supporters” – individuals who (if they accept) may benefit from receiving suggestions from Help Texts as to how they can support you in your grief journey. Gift subscriptions are also an option for those who know a widow and believe this additional emotional support would be well received.

Help Texts currently delivers support in 44 countries and in 25 languages.

A personal note: Although my husband died before Help Texts was created, I did suffer another death loss a few years ago and I found the Help Texts I received to be very comforting. They seemed to arrive at just the right time and always seemed to relieve a little bit of my grief.
